To reduce the high level of fetal alcohol syndrome in Alaska, 20 bars in the state will be tested for free pregnancy through a government-funded research project in collaboration with a nonprofit organization called "Healthy Brains for Children". Senator Pete Kelly (R-Alaska) has proposed a distributor project, which has already begun in Minnesota in 2012 in March this year.
Jody Allen Crow, founder of Healthy Brains for Children, told the Daily News that the campaign targets women who know that they do not drink during pregnancy, but still do it. However, many women with unwanted pregnancy unconsciously give their congenital fetal abnormalities, which alcohol can cause within one month after pregnancy.
"We want to give women every chance to find out her pregnancy status as soon as possible so that she can make an informed decision about the health of herself and her child," Crowe said.
